Global Biomass Market Study, Westinghouse Electric Corporation

ANTARES developed forecasts of global biomass power and heat markets through 2020. The production costs for three sizes of potential biomass conversion systems were compared to those of natural gas-fired systems using in-country information on electricity tariffs, wage rates, and fuel costs. Cost of electricity and capital cost estimates are provided in both U.S. and foreign currency denominations. Several proprietary and publicly available electrical growth forecasts were used and compared. ANTARES' proprietary AGRIENERGY model was used to assess delivered biomass feedstock costs for agricultural residues, forest residues, and farm-grown herbaceous and woody crops. Detailed resource assessments were performed for top target countries, as were analyses of financial, environmental, political, and electricity market structure issues in the selected countries.
