Biomass Fact Sheets, National Renewable Energy Laboratory

In restructured electricity markets, customers are increasingly being given the option to choose their electricity supplier. A number of green power marketers are offering green power products in states such as Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Rhode Island. In these states, third party certification groups have been formed to protect customers and to ensure that green power products offerings will benefit the environment.

In order to educate key stakeholder constituencies and the general public about the benefits and impacts of biomass power, ANTARES developed fact sheets and a list of answers to the most frequently asked questions. Topics included current and future biomass resources, air pollutants emissions from biomass power plants, forestry issues and biomass power, global warming, feedstock issues, and biomass co-firing. These fact sheets will be distributed to participants in green power certification processes and will be posted on NREL's website.
