Biomass Cofiring Strategic & Technology Assessment, National Renewable Energy Laboratory and Federal Energy Management Program (FEMP)

As part of the effort to develop more Federal biomass projects, the National Renewable Energy Laboratory and Federal Energy Management Program are developing materials to assist agencies in developing biomass projects. These materials will be used by agencies to help determine initial feasibility and appropriateness of biomass projects and technologies to their facilities. A major component of this is the Federal Technology Alert (FTA) for Biomass technologies. The purpose of the alert is to describe new technologies to Federal agencies so that they can make informed decisions about whether to proceed with technical projects in those areas. The alerts provide unbiased information on technologies, lessons learned at other facilities, procurement and installation guidance, cost and economic data and general information necessary to evaluate new technologies.

ANTARES assisted NREL to develop, review, and revise the FTA on biomass technologies for distribution to Federal agencies. ANTARES developed and reviewed technology descriptions and applications information, developed and updated cost and economic information, developed and updated guidance on procurement, installation and technology applications, developed and updated case studies on Federal applications of the technologies described, and reviewed and incorporated comments from New Technology Demonstration programs and other appropriate reviewers.
