Repowering Opportunities for Biomass (Domestic Study), National Renewable Energy Laboratory

This project entailed researching and modeling the application of various repowering technologies for use with biomass fuels. As part of the project, a biomass resource potential study for major U.S. regions was coordinated. Several commercially available databases such as those provided by UDI and EIA were used to identify potential candidates for biomass repowering. The project also concentrated on identifying three specific repowering technologies that seem well suited for the use of biomass fuels. Details included cost of electricity (COE) comparisons and schematics of combined cycles, feedwater preheating, and various gasification processes.
