Analytic Support to the Development of the National Bioenergy Initiative, U.S. Department of Energy - Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy

ANTARES staff have participated as technical reviewers and facilitators of discussions among representatives from DOE, Oak Ridge National laboratory (ORNL), National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), USDA, EPA, Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI), White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP), Princeton University, and the Colorado School of Mines concerning the growing and energy conversion of bioenergy crops as an environmental protection and rural development strategy. Data were discussed and prepared for input into three models (DEGREES, NEMS, USDA LP) of energy markets and one model (FASOM) of land use and crop production. These data inputs include capital costs, operating and maintenance costs, heat rates, environmental externality and tax offsets available for advanced conversion systems. Supply and demand curves for energy crops were developed by region and several high-level briefing packages were prepared for the DOE Assistant Secretary and for OSTP.
