Economic and Technical Feasibility of Energy Production from Poultry Litter and Nutrient Filter Biomass on the Lower Delmarva Peninsula, Coalition of Northeast Governors (CONEG)
ANTARES investigated the feasibility of satisfying energy production requirements
on the Delmarva Peninsula with an opportunity fuel--biomass. Teamed with
T.R. Miles Consulting and Foster Wheeler, they worked with Conectiv Energy
and the Delmarva Poultry Industry Inc. to evaluate the suitability of
technologies for three classes of potential energy consumers on the Delmarva
peninsula: bulk power producers, poultry and other industrial process
facilities, and institutional facilities including prisons and schools.
The biomass resources of interest to this effort were the waste poultry
litter generated by the poultry industry and harvested nutrient filter
materials, including willow and switchgrass. Technologies evaluated included
gasification and direct combustion options, including cofiring in existing
boilers on the Delmarva Peninsula.
